On the 161st Anniversary of the Annexation of Punjab

By Aamir Riaz

161 years back, on 29th March 1849, East India Company along with the Royal Bengal Army annexed the Punjab after three unprecedented wars in which British forces suffered huge causalities.

It was Lhore Darbar that engaged Britain for 50 years, no comparison in South Asia, yet biased historians and misleading intellectuals do not acknowledge the struggle of Punjab. British intellectual/historians such as G.W.Litner and Lord Ripen wrote extensively about the achievements of Lhore Darbar praising her governance patrons but Indian and Pakistani historians are still reluctant to admit it.
