Punjabi in BC: An Exciting New Project for Punjabi Lovers

Punjabi in BC is a research project based on direct original interviews with Punjabi community leaders, activists, writers, journalists, artists, students and educators exploring the history of Punjabi language in the province of British Columbia.

This is a treasure trove of raw data that can not only deliver new historical information but also ideas, opinions and nuances that may not be found in scholarly and other curated work.

‘The “Punjabi in BC” research program documents the history of Punjabi language advocacy and mobilization in the lower mainland, through interviews conducted and/or edited by UBC students and recent graduates with advocates and activistsK-12 teachers, and journalists and writers in the Punjabi language community.’ View more here.

Headed by Dr. Anne Murphy at the University of British Columbia in collaboration with Sukhwant Hundal and Lovennet Aujla, Punjabi in BC took place between 2019 to 2023.

The Project’s YouTube channel so far offers interviews with over 50 individuals in over 200 videos. Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7rNrPY-WRYo6t0UdrUXcR2ykio3paDZq
